About Me
I grew up on a rural lifestyle block with my parents and younger brother, 3km from the small Central Hawkes Bay township of Takapau. I started Piano lessons when I was 7, and moved on to Alto Saxophone and Double Bass at high school.
At Napier Girls’ High School, I was involved in Orchestra, Concert Band, Chamber Music and the student music committee, as well as NCEA Music. I never really considered composition as an option moving forward until I found the VUW Bachelor of Music course at Te Koki - New Zealand School of Music (NZSM).
At NZSM, I completed my BMus majoring in Sonic Arts with a minor in Composition, graduating in 2023. During my time in undergrad, I was a finalist in the 2021 Lilburn Trust Composition Competition, and received Highly Recommended in the inaugural Confucius Institute “China Crossing” Composition Competition. Both were for my piece Hauroa Road for Erhu, a Chinese string instrument. I also had a handful of my sonic art works performed at the “Sounds of Te Koki” student concerts.
One of my favourite courses from undergrad was the PERF255 Taonga Puoro class, where we learned how to play a wide range of Maori instruments, and the history and mythology behind them.
Most recently, I completed the Master of Fine Arts (Creative Practice) program, which I graduated with Merit in May 2026. My major project contributions were theatre show A Hardware Love Affair and video game Coastal Postal, with some more minor work going towards two animated films and a live-action film. If you would like to see more of these projects check out my portfolio!
In my spare time, I chronically reread books, attempt to replicate Jimi Hendrix on the guitar, dabble in boxing (bags, not people) and play a myriad of video games. I am also a member of the Capital City Wind Band on the Alto Saxophone.
